Snow Peak is known for its well-made outdoor gear, including tents, bags and cookware.

But at some point they expanded from making supplies to offering places where you can test those supplies in the wild.

Hence a series of campsites in Japan. And also the newly opened Long Beach Campfield, which is not in Southern California but is definitely on Washington state's Long Beach Peninsula. (You don't want to get that wrong on your GPS.)

Snow Peak Long Beach Campfield is a four-season campground situated along the coast between Portland and Seattle. Visitors must leave their vehicles at a main gate, and then walk into the campground, so the site is peacefully car-free.

There are three options for accommodations. At the Field Sites, you bring in your own tent and gear. Tent Suites are spacious tents set up ahead of time by Snow Peak, so you can avail yourself of their high-quality shelters. And Jyubako Suites are cabins with real beds and private bathrooms, best for people who like "camping" more than camping.

The site also has a camp store housing a market and all-day cafe, so go there to stock up on provisions like coffee, beer, snacks, firewood and other essentials. The Wash House has private showers and bathrooms. And the best part is the Ofuro Spa, a traditional Japanese-style bathhouse with a hot pool, a refreshing cold plunge, and a dry sauna.

So, consider Snow Peak's Long Beach Campfield a scenic, secluded destination where you can get off the grid, but within reason.

By which we mean being in nature without giving up amenities like cell service, beer and a spa.
