Robots have proven quite adept at many skilled trades.

Building cars, performing surgery, cooking dinner...

But outside of handheld massage guns, spa experiences have, until now, been fully within the human domain. Sorry, humans.

The ila Only Spa at Lotte New York Palace has just debuted a "fully automated AI massage experience." In other words, a smart robot will work out those knots in your back.

The tech comes from Aescape and is essentially a massage table with two robotic arms. It creates a 3D model of your body, so it can tailor treatments to each individual. Then those robot arms get to work. They're outfitted with seven precise surfaces, each modeled after human hands, so they can deliver targeted pressure in all the right spots.

The experience is customizable. At any point during the massage, you can use the controls to adjust the pressure and intensity, target specific muscle areas, and even change the music and the lighting. According to the company, the machine's synchronized arms deliver the benefits of a 60-minute massage in just 30 minutes. And because there's not a real person doing the work, the self-led massage is much cheaper than the typical spa experience.

In addition to the hotel, Aescape will soon launch in Equinox gyms in select locations throughout New York City. So you can pop in for some deep tissue work. You don't need to get undressed or get slathered in oil — or even workout first — so after the treatment it's easy to jump off the table and go about your day.

And everyone will be so impressed by your daily gym habit
