When in doubt, ask a local.
That advice works in most situations, but especially when it comes to restaurant and bar recommendations.
It also helps if said local is a pioneer of Irish whiskey education and the director of Irish spirits for The Dead Rabbit, the famous and award-winning bar.
Tours of Ireland is a new experience from The Dead Rabbit and Reverie, a company that specializes in culinary adventures. And together they want to showcase the very best the country as to offer. Yes, there will be whiskey. The first trip is set for October 14, and more itineraries will launch next year.
You'll be traveling with The Dead Rabbit's Mark McLaughlin. He's from Donegal and currently lives in Galway. He and the Reverie team have enlisted the best brewers, distillers, craftspeople and chefs in the country to give attendees behind-the-scenes access to the Emerald Isle.
The week-long trip includes stays in five-star hotels, including an 18th-century estate. You'll visit the famous Cliffs of Moher, score rare distillery experiences with Midleton (makers of Jameson and Red Breast) and JJ Corry, take a cooking workshop with local chefs, embark on a fishing expedition and do things that you won't find on Tripadvisor.
There are also optional diversions, like a spa experience, a round of golf or some light falconry.
It's a fine way to see Ireland. And whiskey always tastes best straight from the source. Or after a round of falconry.
