Local 149 is closing out their Tiki Week this weekend. Great little run they had there. Well, technically
they’re still having it, as evidenced by their beach party on Saturday and their luau on Sunday. Bonus:
rum-heavy tiki cocktails and bacon-wrapped Spam. Classic New England.
Saturday
THE ISLAND
A Steamship, an Island and You
Doesn’t take much, but if you’re looking for a reason to hit Portsmouth, this is probably it. Because
“this” involves taking an old-timey steamship to an island off the coast for a little bocce, a live
orchestra playing ’20s-style jazz and a BYOB picnic. Bourbon. Backgammon. Any B should do.
Speaking of boats, over 40 vintage versions of them await you in Salem on Saturday. It’s an
old-school-boat show. Think gold-leaf canoes from the 19th century, motor yachts from the 1900s and classic
mahogany speedboats. And jazz. Because of course jazz.
Oysters. Turns out, those are pretty delicious. And you’ll have four hours to confirm that at Tavern
Road’s pop-up oyster bar with $1 bivalves and plenty of muscadet. Go by the glass or flight with the
latter. Go big or go home with the former.
Tuesday
PIE OH MY
You: The Australian Meat Pie Judge
Here’s what you’re doing this Tuesday. You’re taking a sundown ferry to Eastie. You’re drinking
Australian beers at KO Pies. And then, you’re voting for the best meat pie made by the chefs from JM
Curley, Lincoln and Toro. It’s just what you’re doing.
