If you’ve paid a visit to Allston pool hall Big City in the past few months, you may have noticed a gradual tequila-ification going on. Well, the transformation into a Mexican kitchen with Beer-B-Q Pulled Pork Carnitas, chicken and corn empanadas, and $4 margaritas is complete. Yes, there’s still billiards.
Alert: there’s going to be a massive, two-night, all-you-can-drink gathering of over 25 local brewers touting 70-plus hop-heavy suds (Idle Hands, Jack’s Abby, Cisco) at Space 57 next month. Also present: food from Bon Me, Roxy’s Grilled Cheese and Somerville’s Q’s Nuts. It’s not a beer bash without nuts.
More good news: a traveling tailor has slipped into an empty retail space in the Back Bay to measure you for a crisp new suit, to be customized to your liking (monogramming, felt collars) and shipped to you five weeks from now. All vacant spaces should have a tailor.
Cozy Mexican wonderland Barrio Cantina (formerly Happy’s Bar) has been a fine addition to Fenway. And now, said wonderland will offer brunch, ushering in a new spot for morning huevos rancheros and freshly made micheladas—basically Coronas with hot sauce and spices. Never can have too many spots for those.
Monday will be a good day. Because Church is resurrecting its “craft” mac and cheese Monday night for upscale versions of the fabled dish (think: short rib, broccoli rabe, Swiss emmentaler cheese) paired with 22-ounce IPAs. Beer + cheese is bound to get Monday on your good side again.
