Things to do for February 07, 2013

The Weekender

Dangerous Fruit, New Orleans and Tons of Wine

The weekend likes Fat Tuesday just the way it is.

Five Tables of Wine After Work
TASTE-FUL

Five Tables of Wine After Work

It takes a lot to leave the office. Okay, not really. But on your way out tonight, Brix Wine Shop has a live DJ and 25 different wines (champagne, malbec, Napa cabernet) spread over five tables, all for the sampling for two hours. Which works out to two and a half tables an hour. Easy.

Friday
Art Sometimes Means Dangerous Fruit
GALLERY-AH

Art Sometimes Means Dangerous Fruit

Fruit. Good to eat. Really good when portraying weaponry. So head to the opening of the Sweet Shrapnel exhibit tomorrow, where you’ll see paintings that feature cherry clusters and bananas as grenades, amongst other new uses for produce. Here’s hoping there’s an avocado as a mortar round.

Feb 8, 5-8pm, no cost, Gallery 601, 433 Harrison Ave, Ste 306B, 617-470-1889

Sunday
Live Dancers and a Burlesque Film
NAUGHTY SHOTS

Live Dancers and a Burlesque Film

There’s only one thing better than staying home on a Sunday night and watching a new film about the world of burlesque. Doing it in Cambridge at the Oberon, flanked by some live dancing by Boston’s Black Cat Burlesque and NYC’s Pink Room Burlesque. Do your worst, blizzard.

Tuesday
Tres Gatos’ Birthday. So... Ceviche.
BIRTHDAY-BIRTHDAY

Tres Gatos’ Birthday. So... Ceviche.

Tres Gatos turns two on Tuesday. Which is great, and made better by way of a Spain-meets-Mardi-Gras fiesta. Think: gratis bar bites (bocadillos, shrimp ceviche), New Orleans funk and Dixieland music, 10% off anything in the bookstore and vuvuzela blowing. It’s not a birthday without a bizarre, single-note horn.

Feb 12, 6pm-midnight, no cost, cash bar, Tres Gatos, 470 Centre St, Jamaica Plain, 617-477-4851

FAT TUESDAY

Creole-ing at Liberty Wharf

Speaking of Fat Tuesday, this Liberty Wharf newbie is doing one night of NOLA-style grub. In addition to killer hurricanes and de facto Cajun fun (jambalaya, shrimp and chicken gumbo), they’ll also have Louisiana Seafood Burgers made with swordfish, halibut and salmon. Offering colorful beads to diners may not have the same effect here.
