A Sliver of Japan in Porter Square

Rumors have been swirling about a new US outpost of ramen by a Japanese ramen-slinger in Porter Square. Well, it’s here (mostly). Think: 16 seats, a window open four hours a day and steaming bowls of authentic cabbage and bean sprouts in pork-broth ramen, with five strips of pork. Vegans: beware.

Tentatively opens Oct 12, 6-10pm, Yumewokatare Ramen, 1925 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge

Meet the First Winter Film Fest

Meanwhile over in the Theatre District, the inaugural Boston Winter Film Festival kicks off (and ends) on Friday. Before you: over 10 hours of some of the world’s best ski and snowboard films, including an advance screening of Jeremy Jones’s Further, not opening till the end of November. Bring your own goggles.

Back Deck. Now with Brunch.
NICE GRILL

Back Deck. Now with Brunch.

The last time you hovered over a hardwood charcoal grill firing up wonderment, you thought one thing: “Great brunch potential.” So did Back Deck. Hence: their new brunch service, featuring grilled flank steak and swiss sandwiches, and eggs benedict with grilled ham. They even grill their toast. Mmm... toast.

Sunday
Chez Henri. Also Now Doing Brunch.
FINALLY

Chez Henri. Also Now Doing Brunch.

Speaking of that meal between breakfast and lunch: for the better part of a decade, Chez Henri abstained from this whole “brunch” fad. And now they’ve caved, starting up their first-ever brunch this Sunday featuring escargot, crispy duck confit hash and yes, even their famous Cuban sandwich. Big brunch weekend, folks.
