Things to do for December 31, 2009

The Weekender

Brazilian Revelry, Hangover Brunch and Snowmobiles

The weekend will miss 2009's rugged good looks.

Thursday
City Hall X Games
FREESTYLE

City Hall X Games

City Hall transforms its depressing concrete and brick plaza into a crazy outdoor snow track this afternoon, where Red Bull freestyle snowmobiler Heath Frisby (best freestyle snowmobiler name ever) will be demonstrating the kinds of insane moves you normally only see online.

No cost, 2-4pm, Dec 31, City Hall Plaza, One City Hall Square, 617-635-4000

Brazilian New Year's at 33
RIO

Brazilian New Year's at 33

If you still haven't made plans, 33 Restaurant is going Brazilian tonight with gratis South American-style hors d'oeuvres for the first two hours, a live Brazilian dance troupe, passed party favors and a fully stocked caipirinha bar. All-white attire is encouraged—it means good luck in Brazil, and hopefully it'll work wonders for you in Boston.

$75, 9pm-2am, Dec 31, 33,  33 Stanhope St, 617-572-3311, RSVP here

Emerald City Bash at Suite
OZ

Emerald City Bash at Suite

If the sights and sounds of Brazil aren't in your NYE plans, Suite is throwing an emerald-themed party tonight featuring scantily clad dancers decked out in shiny jewels, DJ beats and a champagne toast at midnight. Your ticket enters you in the contest to win an actual diamond, but we say focus on landing one of the dancers. Good luck.

$65, 9pm-2am, Dec 31, Suite, One Boylston Pl, 617-512-5311, tickets here

Vox Populi's Cynical Sendoff
GOOD RIDDANCE

Vox Populi's Cynical Sendoff

When you think about it, this year wasn't that fantastic. So while other places around town are planning parties in high spirits, Vox Populi is going the other way with an emphatic "F 2009" party, where you can kiss off a rotten annum with free hors d'oeuvres, a potentially grumpy DJ and passed champagne till 2am.

$40, 9pm-2am, Dec 31, Vox Populi, 755 Boylston St, 617-424-8300, RSVP here

Friday
Recovery Brunch at Ginger Park
THE HANGOVER

Recovery Brunch at Ginger Park

Tonight will be epic, and tomorrow you'll have to pay the piper. Do so while noshing on Ginger Park's new hangover brunch, featuring booze-soaking remedies like Shirred Eggs With Lamb Sausage ("shirred" = baked) and the Hangover Bacon Cheeseburger topped with a fried egg. It goes till 4pm, which will give you just enough time to get out of bed and get over there.

11am-4pm, Jan 1 and Sundays, Ginger Park, 1375 Washington St, 617-451-0077
