Late-night donuts.

We had you at late-night donuts, didn't we?

Good. Because here comes Happy Place Donuts, a place with the aforementioned delicious circles, sure, but also anything from boozy gummy bears to housemade guava-and-cheese pop tarts. It's open now on Española Way and looks like this.

Yes, things will go late here on the weekends. And there's also a full-on Sugar Factory Gummy World inside. And you won't be sleeping much anymore. Still: worth it.

The unmistakable aroma of fresh donuts will greet you as a glass window looking into the kitchen offers a glimpse of those, along with gummies, being made.

After peeling your eyes away from this all-important artistry, you'll note how appropriately themed things are. Classic black-and-white floors. Red accents. Dark-wood counters. All juxtaposed against a bold white background. Happy. So happy.

Further embrace that feeling by ordering some Hot & Happy Dough Balls at the counter. But don't stop at the fried-to-order, crispy brioche dough balls coated in powdered sugar. Go for that rainbow donut topped with cotton-candy glaze and chase it with a coconut colada (a double espresso with milk and coconut syrup). And since you've already gone this far, don't skimp on the alcohol-infused gummy bears in rosé, Champagne and peach bellini.

Finally, park yourself at one of the marble tables beneath the red awning with twinkling lights outside on the historic street and fall into a dunk-bite-dunk rhythm.

Perhaps even pray for rain.

On a typical Wednesday, Ginger Harris is likely seeking reposado tequila, squeezing her way to the front of a concert or jumping on the back of an Indian motorcycle. That’s just Wednesdays, though.
