So you’ve sculpted and chiseled your way to the physical ideal of a human being. We couldn’t be prouder.
Knew you could do it. But since for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, your favorite suit
is fitting a little too snugly now.
We could spend all day damning Isaac Newton, or we could tell you what’s possible and impossible in terms of altering that suit to fit who you are now.
Let’s go with the latter.
Shoulders
So sorry, but if your tailor makes any kind of wild promises of altering your suit jacket shoulders, get a new tailor. This just never ends well. You can have them taken in, if your shoulders have somehow shrunk, but even that ends up being just about as costly as a new jacket.
Sleeves
Your biceps are noticeably more... just more. With a little bit of armhole adjustment and a bit of extra sleeve fabric (you can see if you’ve got this in the cuff vent), you’ll be able to have those let out by a bit more than a half inch.
Chest
The push-ups and bench-pressing have barreled your chest a bit. No problem. Depending on the amount of extra fabric built in, you should have about an inch and a half to let out.
Jacket Hips
Ditto, and you’ll probably want to have these let out if you’re having the chest let out, lest people start asking you if it’s Hammer Time.
Trouser Waist
This could have gone either way for you. If you lost a little around the middle, you can take in the waist basically as much as needed. If your new bulk has given you a bit more oblique to flex, you’ve got about another inch and a half to work with, depending on extra fabric.
Thighs
Assuming you’ve been working the stairs and the squats, you’ve typically got another four-fifths of an inch to work with in the average trouser.
Shoes
What the hell kind of workout regime have you been on?
Parting Words
Hopefully we’ve got your favorite suit looking good on you again. With future clothes, though, it’s always easier to size up a bit and have things taken in. So if you’re planning on continuing your journey to rippedness, keep that in mind.
