Shinola makes some of our favorite gear — primarily watches, but also bags, leather goods and apparel.

The Detroit-based company also boasts our favorite hotel in the city. The Michelin Key-awarded Shinola Hotel is effortlessly cool and packed with amenities, including a couple of downtown's best bars and restaurants.

To be clear, you can show up wearing any watch you want. They'll still let you in, despite that Rolex or Timex on your wrist. But the brand's new complimentary Lending Program, which coincides with the hotel's fifth anniversary, is loaning out Shinola watches to guests during their stay.

The program is currently available those aged 21+ staying in suite and penthouse room categories. So, first, be that and book that.

To get started, you'll meet with a member of the Experience Team, who will share the story behind each timepiece, guide you through the various features, and help you select a style. There's a specially-curated lineup of 10 watches across an array of sizes, colors and features, so you can find something you like.

Then, strap that thing on your wrist and go about your day. Maybe you're in town for a business meeting and want something to convey confidence. Maybe you're going out to a nice dinner and your wrist was looking a little lonely. No matter the occasion, there's a watch to suit your need.

The program is also a great way to try out styles you might be interested in purchasing. Consider it a test drive for the iconic Runwell or Birdy timepieces. Or step outside the box a little with the Bronze Monster — a good-looking watch with a bronze case and leather strap — or the elegant Derby with a gold band, gold case and white face.

Whatever you choose is free to wear. Just try not to lose it in a dice game.
