Down and Out

A Hip New Lair of Foie and Vinyl in SoBe

Look, everyone knows that walking down stairs is way easier than going up them.

You know it. We know it. Jennifer Lawrence knows it.

So let’s keep that momentum going for a second...

And bound down the steps of The Downstairs at Hotel Astor, a hip new repository for poutine tater tots, devil cake and late nights of DJ-spun vinyl, opening Friday in (wait for it...) the Hotel Astor.

Seems the Hotel Astor’s been undergoing a bit of a renaissance lately. Relax—all of her art-deco-ness is still intact. But downstairs, things are getting a bit... funky. Like, leather-topped bars, bookshelves lined with classics and tater tots funky. Those are poutine short rib tater tots, to be exact. But there’s also foie gras and devil’s food cake looking to make your acquaintance.

Why you’re here: well, we’re thinking a casual-ish date. Dinner or just drinks. Maybe a round of Funky Buddha’s Floridian brew at the bar or some cocktails out on the open-air terrace. Nothing too crazy.

Something to keep in mind, though: the lounge is open until 5am. With DJs spinning vinyl curated by a Winter Music Conference cofounder. Fact is, you might even find yourself here after your dinner date.

Date optional.
