Coffee and Jalapeño-Ham Biscuits Next to Brenda’s

Get ready: on Friday, you’re going to be pretty excited to stand in a crazy-long line.

Not for a TV the size of Wisconsin—for a table at Brenda’s. Now you get some jalapeño-ham biscuits and chicory coffee while you wait.

No rush, Brenda’s. Really, take your time...

Welcome Libby Jane Café, a biscuit-and-coffee-stocked Southern café addition to Brenda’s French Soul Food that lives two doors down, opening Friday.

Flashback: a few years ago, you lived in a world without Brenda’s savory crawfish beignets. Then Brenda’s opened, and you vowed never to speak of those prior dark years ever again. But as for actually getting inside and sitting down—well, you usually have some time to kill before that happens.

Kill it here. It’s like a Hollywood version of Charleston, with lemon-colored wainscoting and a marble counter stocked with watermelon sweet tea, sweet-potato coffee cake and biscuits. Lots of biscuits. You can get them with five try-’em-all spreads, including ham jam. Yes, ham jam.

If you’re not doing Brenda’s at all (stay with us here), just grab gumbo, a pimento cheese sandwich and White Trash Cookies—made with crushed Ruffles, pretzels, Cracker Jacks, Froot Loops and classic M&M’s—and go.

Maybe to the gym.
