Your Guide to DC Beer Week

Your mind isn’t really on your work. It’s on your late summer jaunt. Just need to get through another few days. Well, good news: those days will be filled with beer. Even more than usual, as DC Beer Week kicks off with a week’s worth of hoppy events. Like these...

Miles Davis: In Beer Form
MONDAY

Miles Davis: In Beer Form

You probably never wondered what Miles Davis tastes like, but just in case, Dogfish Head will be popping beer from its rare music series: the Davis-inspired Bitches Brew, the Robert Johnson–inspired Hellhound on My Ale and the hip-hop-inspired Positive Contact. Yes, they’ll have a DJ. No, he won’t be playing Soundgarden.

Christmas in August at Smoke & Barrel
TUESDAY

Christmas in August at Smoke & Barrel

You’re starting to long for some crisp, cool temperatures. You can’t have them. What you can have: beers usually reserved for colder months, as Great Lakes pours its vaunted Christmas Ale and Blackout Stout, along with other brewery exclusives. Santa hat: optional. Making a white beard with the head of your beer: not optional.

DC Brau Pitchers and Lots of Blue Crabs
WEDNESDAY

DC Brau Pitchers and Lots of Blue Crabs

Arming everyone at a beer event with mallets: not usually a good idea. Unless the intended target of said mallets is unlimited blue crabs. You’ll wash down your crabs with pitchers of DC Brau (they’ll be cutting you some deals). Make sure to wipe the Old Bay off your lips.

Downing Rare Maine Beers at ChurchKey
THURSDAY

Downing Rare Maine Beers at ChurchKey

Things Maine is home to: moderate senators, flinty fishermen... and beers that you usually can’t get here. Except next Thursday, when ChurchKey pours beers from Oxbow, Rising Tide and Maine Beer Company, and several weird ones from Allagash, like beer aged with strawberries. Do not add cream.

Aug 16, 6pm-close, ChurchKey, 1337 14th St NW, 202-567-2576

One Beer to Unite Them All
FRIDAY

One Beer to Unite Them All

As you might already know, there are currently seven breweries doing their thing inside the Beltway. In a kumbaya moment, they decided to all collaborate on a single beer for the week, called Solidarity Saison. It’ll be popping up at different bars all week. Show the raised fist for entry.
