Things to do for May 10, 2012

The Weekender

A Block Party, a Beer Festival and Brunch with Mom

We can do this one of two ways: the easy way, or the weekend way.

Thursday
Friday
All the Food Trucks. In One Place.
BUMPER TO BUMPER

All the Food Trucks. In One Place.

North Dallas is being invaded. The intruders: food trucks. Over 30 of them. Including Three Lions, the Butcher’s Son and Yumé Burger. The latter: a four-wheeled kitchen out of Austin that grills up something called a Po-ku Burger (picture a cheeseburger topped with wasabi slaw). Goes great with a side of curb.

Saturday
Eating in the Middle of Cole Avenue
BLOCK AND LOADED

Eating in the Middle of Cole Avenue

Knox-area chefs are stopping traffic on Cole Avenue this Saturday for a block party (yes, there’ll be food tents/parking cones). Expect grilled shrimp and curry from Abacus and gazpacho from Cafe Madrid. To wash it down, fresh sangria from—you guessed it—Sangria. We’d have also accepted Sangria “R” Us.

May 12, 1-4pm, $5, KnoxFest, intersection of Cole Ave and Knox St

A Giant Beer Convention
PINT AFTER

A Giant Beer Convention

Here’s a good excuse to go to Irving: beer. Check that: lots of beer. Yes, there’s one of those massive beer expos at the Irving Convention Center on Saturday. Attending: craft brewers from all across the state. Performing: local bands. Plus, there’ll be sample pours, brewing seminars and pretzels. Many, many pretzels.

Sunday
A One-Time Brunch at Ocean Prime
NEW WAVE

A One-Time Brunch at Ocean Prime

Ocean Prime doesn’t do brunch. But for your mom, they’ll make an exception. So you’ll take advantage this Sunday and reserve a patio table for two. Get Ma the blueberry french toast and a blood orange mimosa. Also, a card. And a second blood orange mimosa.

May 13, 11am-3pm, Ocean Prime, 2101 Cedar Springs Rd, 214-965-0440

Poolside Concerts in Oak Cliff
IN THE DEEP

Poolside Concerts in Oak Cliff

The problem with concerts: anytime the band plays something from the new album. Also, a complete lack of diving boards. Thankfully, the Belmont Hotel is launching a concert series where local groups will perform poolside all summer. Tickets can be found online... and lawn chairs can be found at Weir’s.
