The Weekender

Beaver Burgers, ’80s Music and Zac Freaking Efron

The weekend is calling its shot.

Thursday
A Concert Full of ’80s Music
VILLAGE PEOPLE

A Concert Full of ’80s Music

Tonight, the West Village is setting up a massive stage outside of Mi Cocina and Lemon Bar. There’ll be queso, there’ll be Mambo Taxis, there’ll be a cover band singing the hell out of “Livin’ on a Prayer.” If you close your eyes, you’ll swear it’s actually Sambora.

Date Night at the Dallas Film Festival

Dinner and a movie: predictable. Cocktails and a film festival: less so. This evening, you and your plus-one will head to the Majestic for a special screening of Liberal Arts, the new Zac Efron joint. Then, chase it with a cocktail at the festival’s opening-night soiree. Or maybe two. It’s an Efron flick, after all.

A Burger Made from Beavers

First, get your head out of the gutter. Second, yes, this is really happening. The patty pros at Twisted Root are introducing a burger this weekend (in honor of their Diners, Drive-ins and Dives feature) with lettuce, tomato and meat from everyone’s favorite dam-building rodent. We’ll just assume it tastes like chicken.

Friday
Hard Rock and Food Trucks
TRUCK STOP

Hard Rock and Food Trucks

Bad news: this Friday, there’s going to be a huge traffic jam in Deep Ellum. Good news: it’ll consist primarily of food trucks. Everything from the Munch Box to Easy Slider. And to enhance these delicious road blocks, My Wooden Leg and Hares on the Mountain will perform. Yes, those are bands.

Getting Your Hair Cut at a Bar

Ahead, a busy weekend. Watching the Mavs make the playoffs. Sipping IPAs on a patio. A haircut. Well, the scissor wizards at Hair by Charlie want to assist, so they’ve set up a barber chair by the bar at Three Sheets. No, you can’t tip him in bourbon.
