Pizza. On its own, nearly perfect.
Comforting. Cheesy. Marinara-y. Really, not much room for improvement.
Except maybe topping it with house-cured bacon from Michael’s Genuine. And making sure the aforementioned Michael is there to man the stove.
We’re referring to Harry’s Pizzeria, a hip new lair of pies and craft beers helmed by Michael Schwartz, opening Tuesday in the Design District.
Michael has taken over the old Pizza Volante space, and planned it as a quick stop for all your thin-crust-pizza-eating needs. The place is named after Schwartz’s son Harry, and they’ve made a few changes: there’s now a rustic wood bar and a brick oven, from which will emerge 10 varieties of perfectly blistered pies.
You’ll come here for casual business lunches of the MGFD Bacon, topped with caramelized onions and gruyère, and sides of homemade meatballs and polenta fries. On Art Night, bring your date here to share a carafe of Tuscan sangiovese and the Rock Shrimp pizza, fanned with grilled lemon and manchego. (Gallery hopping always makes you hungry.)
And in true Michael’s style, even the beer list is local, with Native Lager and Cigar City Jai Alai IPA on draft.
You prefer your beer not travel too far.
