Wednesdays are great for doing crazy things and then justifying them by saying you
were just trying to get over the hump.
For this week's crazy thing, we suggest you try some toffee spiked with booze, courtesy of Mermaid Sea Salt Toffee.
Started by a local food writer, MSST's a Miami-based custom toffee dealer willing to whip up a batch of candy injected with pretty much anything you can think of. Each batch of toffee is handmade using exotic ingredients like curry powder, cumin, black mustard seeds, fennel seeds, peppercorns and coriander seeds—all known for aiding digestion, which means they won't just satisfy your 4pm sweets craving, they'll also satisfy your 9:30am "magazine break."
You can find the artisanal (read: nonalcoholic) toffees at Yiya's Bakery on the Upper East Side, but if you're looking for something with a bit more kick, she can do customized batches (for about $12 for a half-pound) based on your preferred spirit, be it Baileys, rum, scotch or bourbon.
Or if you're really feeling crazy: almonds.
