Each October, we get something to look forward to.
Cooler temperatures and changing leaves, sure.
Eating an ungodly amount of candy, obviously.
But also the latest release from Harridan Vodka, who continues to put out the spookiest spirits around, with an annual release leading up to Halloween.
This time it's The Paranormal Reserve: Asylum Edition, which sees their vodka rested for a month in two of America’s most haunted asylums.
This year’s collection contains 700 bottles. Half were rested in the infamous Pennhurst Asylum in Spring City, Pennsylvania, which closed in 1987 amid decades of controversy. The other half spent time in the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, West Virginia, which opened in 1864, closed in 1994, and is a favorite site among ghost hunters and paranormal TV shows for its reported hauntings and unexplained activity.
What does hanging out in such places do to the spirits? There's only one way to find out.
Each bottle is hand-numbered and comes packaged in a locally carved wood box, with a prescription pad, an authenticity card and gloves for safe handling. That last bit could be overkill, or it could be necessary. Hard to say, but as every horror movie has taught us, this is no time to be cavalier.
The Asylum Edition follows the brand's release last year, in which the vodka spent time in two of the country's most haunted hotels. Before that, Harridan released 666 bottles that were rested for 30 days at the Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut, which houses the infamous Annabelle doll. Clearly they've got a theme here.
And now seems like a great time for a drink.
