Whiskey and ice cream are two of life's great pleasures.

When combined, it's usually via a whiskey-laced ice cream.

Which is delicious, though difficult to drink on the rocks.

So here's an alternative: Glenmorangie A Tale of Ice Cream, a new single malt Scotch whisky that was inspired by the various flavors of an ice cream parlor menu.

This new expression was created by Glenmorangie Head of Whisky Creation Dr. Bill Lumsden and Master Blender Gillian Macdonald. It follows other Glenmorangie "A Tale of" expressions inspired by cake, the forest and winter.

To make it happen, Glenmorangie aged the spirit in specially toasted ex-bourbon and high-vanillin casks to magnify the whisky’s sweet, creamy notes. So it's not quite like drinking melted ice cream, but more akin to drink a whiskey with all your favorite ice cream flavors baked into it.

The whisky is 46% ABV and pours bronze in the glass. It has aromas of honey, lemon-flavored butter candy, baked raisin bread, candied orange peel, peaches, toffee and a hint of spice. A splash of water brings out vanilla crème anglaise, coconut and marzipan.

The texture is full and rich, with sweet and spicy flavors of brioche, honeycomb, fudge, lemon sherbet and coconut. Spices warm the palate, with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and clove, and it all finishes with long, lingering notes of toffee, apple, popcorn and aniseed.

There's a lot to unpack here, so pour yourself a dram and dig in.

A spoon is optional.
