Thirteen thousand dollars can buy you a lot of things.

A used car, a small boat, a really nice watch...

In Chicago, it can buy you a Martini.

Fortunately, it's not just the typical blend of gin and dry vermouth served in a glass. Because this one involves mezcal and tomato served in a glass. Plus a diamond necklace, which starts to explain some things.

The Marrow Martini is a new addition to Adalina, the Chicago restaurant with "Top Chef" star Soo Ahn in the kitchen and Michelin's 2022 Sommelier of the Year Colin Hofner in charge of drinks. It's made with Clase Azul mezcal, clarified heirloom tomato water, and lemon basil olive oil, and it's presented in a smoke-filled cloche.

The drink is garnished with a tomato and comes with a gold necklace featuring 150 little diamonds. The latter is supplied by Marrow Fine, the jewelry store located just below the restaurant.

That mezcal isn't cheap. And it takes some labor to create the clarified tomato water. But we can confidently say the necklace is why this drink is so pricey.

The cocktail has only been around for about a week, and at least one customer has purchased it. You can do the same if you go to Adalina.

Otherwise, just keep this in mind the next time you're out for drinks, and you won't feel so bad about your own bar tab.
