MLB All-Star festivities kickoff this weekend, with a variety of events leading up to the Home Run Derby on Monday and the All-Star Game on Tuesday.
If you're in Arlington to attend, you may need to pop a few statins before ordering concessions. Everyone else can just gawk from afar.
Because this year's menu features an only-in-Texas array of items big enough to feed an army — or a baseball fan who's six beers deep.
To feed hungry fans, the Texas Rangers, Globe Life Field and food partner Delaware North brought in 20 chefs from across the country to contribute dishes. This is in addition to the barbecue, burgers, wings, tacos and other options already available.
Chef Yuhi Fujinaga will be making poke bowls with ahi tuna, steamed rice and all the toppings, and that's nice if you're looking for a lighter meal. But the smarter play is to save room for one of the over-the-top creations on offer.
We're talking about the Three Strike Boombox, which features a two-foot bed of waffle fries topped with chili, brisket, pulled pork, pico de gallo, lettuce and jalapenos. Or the two-foot-long Boomstick Hotdog. Or the two-foot-long tray of loaded Boomstick Nachos.
You may have noticed a recurring theme here, and it's not modesty.
Tik Tok star StaleKracker will be on site making two dishes: a classic jambalaya during the Home Run Derby and Cajun Pasta during the game.
Other special items include cheese steaks, steak sandwiches and the Lone Star Frito Pie Dog, which is a footlong hot dog loaded with chili, Fritos, queso, sour cream and jalapeños.
Somehow that seems tame by comparison.
