Pasta, Wine and a Well-Pedigreed Somm in Russian Hill

Bringing a Date Would Be the Right Call

You've totally been meaning to build out a pasta room at your place for when dates come over.

Totally been meaning to do that.

Guess you'll have to borrow the one at AltoVino for now. It's a wine-focused Italian date spot from a sommelier with Quince, Perbacco and Incanto experience that's now open in Russian Hill. Check it out.

It's an intimate space, this one. Perfect for you and that special human you brought to hang out for a spell at the bar. Its marble top happens to be perfect for holding glasses of prosecco and ginger spritzes. Imagine that. When you're ready, though, it's off to the main dining room underneath an electric-red-and-gold panel of Italian fabric.

"Believe it or not, it's not all about fabrics here." You'll say. And then you'll go on to point at the menu, starting with things like speck with pickled radicchio before moving onto something from that specially built-out pasta room. Perhaps the lemon tagliatelle with salmon and arugula. Definitely the Chestnut Pappardella with slow-cooked pork shoulder ragu.

And to pair, something from the extensive Italian wine list, of course. They have 22 by-the-glass choices if you don't feel like committing to a full bottle.

Though this probably isn't the place to start having commitment issues.
