Good thing you abandoned Dry January when you did.
Those were a rough two days.
Plus, the arrival of Fort Lauderdale's Lona wasn't going to make things any easier.
Oh, Lona? Yes, she's the new Mexican restaurant and tequila/mezcal bar that's now open and ready to be your spicy temptress for the rest of this year's months. And she looks thusly.
You and your date will immediately notice the outdoor bar overlooking the ocean and the sweet, aforementioned stash of tequila and mezcals lining it. That's 270 tequilas and close to 200 mezcals, to be exact. All the drinks here, like the Breathing Lightning with mezcal, pineapple and hellfire bitters, are from one of NYC's Employee's Only founders.
Have a seat at one of the orange-and-teal lounge chairs. Take in the hand-painted agave plants on the tiles, the view, the wonderful breeze. Perhaps order a whole bottle of tequila to extend your stay. Tequila lockers are available in the back, should you leave a little for next time.
As these things go, you'll eventually find your way to a table inside. Decide on something great. Something like the pumpkin tamale with pasilla sauce, crispy kale and Cotija cheese. The chicken enchiladas divorciadas are also worth your time. And since you're all in at this point, maybe have a little dessert. Say, flan with coconut custard and passion fruit sorbet.
There's no dessert locker, though.
