Thursday night.

Maybe you'll just stay indoors with a good book.

Beside some excellent añejo.

And a ballerina cradling a dove. And a stuffed ibex head.

Clearly, you're going to Poppy, a majestic new lounge with a trace of the surreal from H.Wood Group, now open Thursday nights on La Cienega.

Have a look at this place. It's impressive. The central room looks like a robber baron's library, with a towering network of timber shelves shouldering thousands of old tomes and the occasional globe or peacock statue. That's where you'll witness mermaids delivering giant shells that open up to bottles for the tables who order them.

Shortly before you take a date gently by the arm and steer your ship to the garden atrium with a poppy-carpeted back wall and shrubbery covering the ceiling. Nice spot to kick back with an extra-añejo, neat, to hear what the DJ has to say while the room churns around you.

Just beyond that is a VIP bar under a exquisitely arched ceiling. That has its own secret entrance for
pretty people and Drake and various Jenners.

Because those ladies just hate being seen.
