Lisbon and San Francisco have some very important things in common.
An orange-hued suspension bridge, for one. Ridiculously steep hills. An appreciation for good food and great wine.
We’ll let you guess which one pertains to Uma Casa, a bright little slice of Lisbon comestibles that’s now open in Noe Valley and looks like this.
This is the brainchild of chef Telmo Faria, Portuguese native and former Tacolicious chef. The traditional tiles, sandy wood tables and pops of bright blue and white evoke the spirit of waterfront Lisbon, but they fit in pretty well here, too.
Our similarities in taste will reach new heights when you grab a seat at the bar and take in the menu of Portuguese classics you’re about to enjoy. Start with a WPT, a riff on the classic Portuguese white port and tonic, and a selection of petiscos (you can just call them “snacks”). Some grilled sardines would also do nicely, as would some shrimp turnovers with piri-piri sauce.
Take a moment to think about a spritzy white from Vinho Verde or an earthy red from the Douro. Think about some braised short ribs. Think about how good of an idea it was to bring a date.
Feel free to think your own thoughts, too.
