You haven’t been drinking enough watermelon this summer.
It’s just a general feeling we’re getting.
And the remedy must be the prompt administration of a Tampico Sun, a refreshing and damn summery cocktail that goes heavy on the fruit at West Hollywood’s Doheny Room.
It’s a mix of vodka and Galliano bearing two forms of liquid watermelon. One of which you’re going to make yourself.
So any troublesome watermelon deficits will soon be a thing of the past.
Tampico Sun
1 1/2 oz vodka
1/2 oz Galliano
1 1/2 oz fresh watermelon juice
1/2 oz watermelon syrup*
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
mint leaves
Combine all ingredients (including mint) in a shaker tin with three pieces of cracked ice, and shake until ice has dissolved. Strain into an ice-filled highball/collins glass, top with soda and garnish with a fresh mint bouquet.
*Watermelon Syrup
8 oz fresh watermelon juice, strained
8 oz granulated sugar
Add ingredients to a pot over low heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Let cool for 20 minutes before using.
