Some drinks are morning eye-openers.
Some are best enjoyed over a long lunch.
Others pair perfectly with dinner.
And then there are those relaxing late-night cocktails that are the drinking equivalent of sitting in a comfortable chair by the fire—better still if you’re sitting in a comfortable chair by the fire.
This is one of those. You can tell because of what’s in it, and also because it’s got instructions right there in the name (see: “nightcap”).
The rum itself is full of tropical fruits, almonds and spice. Mix that with a couple of bittersweet Italian liqueurs, chocolate bitters and salt, and you’ve got a rich and warming drink that will always be there for you at the end of a long day.
Siren’s Nightcap
2 oz Bacardi Facundo Neo rum
3/4 oz Cynar
1/2 oz Aperol
1 pinch sea salt
2 dashes chocolate bitters
In a mixing glass, add the salt and then the rest of the ingredients. Stir with plenty of ice and strain into a rocks glass with a big ice cube. Garnish with an orange peel.
