Ah, the second date. It’s a statement date.
Too casual, and you look like you didn’t put any thought into it. Also, mustard stains.
Too formal, and... well, it’s too formal. Everybody’s just worried about their posture.
Here, now there’s “reservations for two at Trestle,” a low-key yet swanky spot with a $35 prix fixe menu and an impressive wine list, opening tomorrow on Columbus. (And here’s the slideshow.)
The inside’s nice: black-washed brick walls. Glass doors. Massive floral arrangements. You know, date-ish stuff.
Then you’ll have a few choices to make. Only a few. The wine, of course. It’s a good list, divided into reasonable and... grand-cru having. And your dinner menu is a simple, daily changing three-course prix fixe, with a couple options for each course. (Here’s a sample.)
You might start with calamari before a crispy branzino with fregola salad or a short rib pot roast. Your dessert might involve meringue, strawberry and rhubarb. Most of the team has worked with Michael Mina, so you’re in good hands.
They’re metaphorical hands.
Why is that a saying?
Anyway. Good date spot.
