Next week, your options will include a truly no-frills kind of bar.
Unless you consider a jukebox, vintage video games and junk food to be frilly.
It’s called The High Dive, and it opens Tuesday in the old Pharmacy Bar space in Adams Morgan.
This is the kind of perfectly unpretentious spot that had one of the Jerky Boys record their outgoing voicemail message (go ahead, call and see).
It’s also the kind of place with no kitchen. So you’ve got a couple of options: 1) grab something from the neighborhood—a rice bowl from Donburi, a pizza from Mellow Mushroom—and bring it in; or 2) ask them for some Doritos, Combos, Blow Pops or Sour Patch Kids.
But mostly you’re here for simple drinks like Moscow Mules and cans of beer, and a jukebox loaded with everything from Iron Maiden to Phil Collins. Take those drinks out to the picnic tables on the front patio, or grab the booth. The only one. The one with a mural of a diver rescuing a maiden (check it out here).
In coming weeks, expect comedy nights on Tuesdays and Street Fighter II tournaments.
Oh, right: they have a Street Fighter II machine.
