Nara Sushi

A Curious Sushi Bar and Sake Bar on Haight

None 6 Photos Nara Sushi
When you woke up this morning, did you happen to open a window, do a little stretch/yawn thing, tuck someone’s hair behind their ear in a tender manner and then think, “Damn, I could really go for some sushi with Pop Rocks on top tonight”?

No?

Weird.

Because a new and different Nara Sushi exists now, and they’re doing some kind of weird sushi stuff here that you might not have thought you’d crave—but now you know it’s out there so research seems required. It’s open now.

Sashimi. Nigiri. Rolls. All stuff that’s expected at a sushi place—and stuff you can find here. Great. But there’s a festive vibe within these walls, more like a sushi party than a sushi restaurant.

If you’re with friends (and whoever you woke up with, the person with the hair), commandeer an elevated communal table. It’s dark all around you, dark wood, dark-brown leather stools... with a bunch of sake bottles that are backlit. So, good lighting.

It’s the California Pop roll that has the Pop Rocks on top. Do with that information what you will. The Unagi Spring has a “potato crunch” happening, like crushed chips. Also, ramen and seafood pancakes.

No Starbursts on top or anything.
