Adventurous eating.
You’re generally up for trying just about anything.
We’ll just let you find the thing below that you may or may not be up for...
Here’s the new Hawker Fare, the second outpost of Southeast Asian–style street food and
cocktails from James Syhabout, opening tomorrow on Valencia.
This place is in the old Amber Dhara spot and it’s a lot like the original, only three times the size. So
two levels of corrugated metal roofing, string lights and Laotian-Thai floor mats.
Also bigger: the menu. It’s a little crazier, with things like jungle duck curry, grilled head-on
soft-shell shrimp and a beefsteak tartare with toasted rice powder and beef bile. As in... beef bile. As
in... well, let’s just move on.
Come with a hungry group where everybody knows everybody. Hands can be utensils here. Start off with some
Thai-style bottle service, which involves a handle of whiskey and some soda water. Unless you’re in the
mood for tiki-style cocktails with jackfruit or the slushy machine’s daily changing cocktail
special.
It’s a fateful slushy machine.
