Barneys Brings Back Rooftop Power Lunching

None 4 Photos Freds
Time was, you could bring a visiting client up to Barney Greengrass.

Show them the view. Instill a little weather envy. Engage in some fierce regionally biased bagel debates.

The more things change, the more they become Freds, the sleek new house of crabby club sandwiches and crazy Hollywood Hills views atop Barneys—grand-opening October 16 (and likely soft-opening sooner) in Beverly Hills. (See the blue-skied slideshow here.)

You know the deal here. You’re taking preppy friends, suited-up clients, underemployed actresses and anyone else with a decent midday leisure window up to the fifth floor for lunch and weekend brunch. That’s when you’ll stop knowing the deal and start noticing some big changes.

Yep, now there’s a Mad Men–worthy onyx bar waiting to martini you up. Bartenders wearing Band of Outsiders jumpsuits. Huge, colorful wall panels by pop artist Rob Pruitt. Nice. But let none of this get in the way of you and the terraces.

Because that’s really where all of this was headed. Fresh fettuccine, crab-shrimp-and-bacon club sandwiches and Belgian pommes frites in the afternoon with some pretty stellar skyline and a couple drinks.

Of course, they’ll keep serving past sunset, too.

In case a couple becomes a couple more.
