Big news today.
No, not DeSean Jackson coming to the Redskins. It’s better.
And here it is: soon, there’ll be a place on 14th Street serving nothing but sweets and booze.
Say hello to Red Light, a dessert-and-cocktail bar named after 14th Street’s scandalous former life, opening next Thursday in the former Bar di Bari space.
This is where you’ll go after you’ve had all the pasta and tapas you can handle, but you’re not quite done with your date (or they aren’t quite done with you).
Inside, things have gone all dark and moody. Gray walls, metal mesh chandeliers, a woman in a corset on a mirror. Take a seat at the open pastry bar... or anywhere you can get Black & Tan Donuts (pale ale beignets with chocolate-stout filling).
Okay, settle down. You’re still trying to impress someone. Start with a Peep Show, with genever, Pimm’s and black tea. All right, now it’s time for a soufflé, maybe a fondue for two, or a three-course dessert prix fixe, with a cocktail pairing.
If you find yourself here during daylight hours, don’t worry. They’ll have someone shaving stone-fruit-infused ice on their 40-seat patio, the better to combine with your cocktail.
Or just ask for a snow cone.
