Reasons to seek out new brown liquors this weekend:
1. It’s still freezing out.
2. The Pro Bowl isn’t going to hold your attention for all that long.
3. There’s another place to do so.
It’s called The Whiskey Room, and it opens tonight upstairs at Rí Rá, the new Irish bar on M Street.
Yeah, sure, downstairs you’ll get a lively Irish scene. But when you’re looking for conversation and contemplation (mostly of whiskey), you’ll want to head upstairs, past the giant barrel chandelier.
You’ll find all kinds of high-tops for two, but if you’re dragging around a few aficionados, head for the bar, salvaged from an Irish watchmaker’s shop. As you look around at the 200 whiskey bottles, steel yourselves for what’s to come with smoked salmon blini and deviled Scotch eggs.
Then get down to business. And here, business comes three ways. First, in cocktails like the Islay Dawn, with scotch, honey syrup and pear liqueur. Or you can take them straight, served in varying levels of luxe crystal.
Or just opt for one of their “whiskey duels,” a head-to-head matchup of sorts. Think Irish peat vs. Scottish peat, or aged vs. un-aged whiskey.
It beats pistols at 10 paces.
