Say what you want about New Zealanders.
Those guys make a hell of a pop-up restaurant in the heart of America’s Cup Village.
That’s for sure.
You know.
Anyway, take the Waiheke Island Yacht Club, for example. It’s a big waterfront warehouse that’s about to be temporarily filled with venison tartare and beer. And it’s opening Thursday at Pier 29.
So. Waiheke Island. It’s... an island. More importantly, it’s the island oasis not too far from Auckland that inspired this whole beautiful ordeal. That ordeal being a massive pop-up restaurant helmed by one of New Zealand’s most decorated restaurateurs.
Expect deep-blue rippling fabric walls and hardwood floors. Expect a huge island bar that was designed to resemble the black-sand beaches of the island. And then expect to swan-dive into all of that with a date who doesn’t hate alpine salmon and Silere merino lamb rack and Moa Brewing Company drafts.
They’ve got a casual, à la carte thing going on at lunch. Great for popping in before or after you watch the sailboats sail. But come back at night. That’s when they’ll be rolling out the four-course menu and getting all warehouse-fancy on you.
It’s a thing. We checked.
