Minaj and Carey. LaBeouf and Baldwin. Carnivores and vegans.
Here’s a place where everybody can just settle down together for dinner and wine cocktails...
Shake hands over the table at Scratch Bar, the former pop-up-dinner thing that’s finally an actual restaurant, now open.
This is a casually handsome place you’ll find on La Cienega, but the opposite of those spots up the street where club beats bound out of convertibles at valets. No, you’re here for a low-fuss two-top covered with burlap placemats and, to start, some Hero Heat-Os—they’re cayenne-spiked sake cocktails.
And the food. It’s interesting. You can come with an old-school producer (she’ll have the hanger steak), a food blogger (warm hamachi with sweetbreads) and a vegan yoga instructor (blackened cauliflower and some cream of orange soup). The menu reads pretty simple, but... surprise, yes, that’s a dehydrated chamomile flower on your pork belly.
For a date or special occasion, though, do this: reserve two spots for the nightly 9:30pm seating at the bar. And let the chef whip up an 11-course tasting right in front of you.
It’d be weird if he were right behind you.
