So...
Michael Schwartz. Design District. New restaurant. Lose your mind.
Okay, maybe read this first, then lose your mind.
Behold The Cypress Room, an old-timey, wood-heavy dining room that you’ll lean on for all things game and cask-aged-cocktail related, opening tonight in the Design District.
Picture your grandma’s fancy dining room (you know, the one nobody ever actually sat in) crossed with an Everglades roadhouse. There’s cypress-wood paneling. Framed black-and-white photos of Old Florida. Crystal chandeliers. And taxidermied wild deer mounted on the wall. It’s charming... in a subtropical-wetlands sort of way.
Come here with the kind of date who’s comfortable ordering something other than a salad. And when you do, cozy up on one of the light-blue tufted banquettes with a couple of barrel-aged cocktails, like the Bonnie and Clyde (gin, blood-orange liqueur, Cocchi Americano). Because... gin. But also, because it pairs well with stuff like antelope and frog legs (we assume).
And if you should want dessert at some point in the evening (probably after you’ve had your fill of frog legs), know this: pastry demigod Hedy Goldsmith is handling all the sweet stuff. Expect Florida-citrus chess pie with huckleberries. And hot chocolate with Thai basil... Easily your favorite spice.
Right after nutmeg.
And cumin.
And paprika.
