It’s the revamped Sir and Star, an updated version of a historic 1876 farmhouse inn, now soft-open in Marin.
The location: the corner where Sir Francis Drake meets Highway 1. Your move: making a pit stop between, say, hiking around Point Reyes and heading home.
Look for the Victorian farmhouse. It used to be white, now it’s charcoal, but most importantly, it should be pretty easy to spot. Head on into the dining rooms, which are bedecked with taxidermied birds. (Somewhere, Tippi Hedren is smiling. Or, you know, running away in terror.)
The old vibe here: special-occasion-y. The new vibe here: less stuffy, more drop-in-anytime. Meaning that if you’ve spent the day kayaking around Tomales Bay, you can stop in, sit on the porch, and down a glass of pinot noir or slurp some oysters. (Maybe change out of your wetsuit first.) Or just sit inside and feast upon fire-roasted crabs, rotisserie chicken or caramelized pork belly. Kayaking tends to make you hungry.
Toward the end of summer, they’ll also reopen their nine-room inn.
Though chances are, you’ll only need one of them.
