A Down-Home Hall of Donut Burgers

You’ve got a lot to be thankful for this year.

Normally, this is where we’d proceed with some kind of jokey list. But let’s just cut to the chase: donut burgers.

Yep, this year you’re mostly thankful for donut burgers.

Please meet Slater’s 50/50, a nostalgic sports-bar-diner kind of place slinging unholy burgers involving donuts and bacon—it opens Friday to instantly render your holiday leftovers obsolete.

So picture it. This weekend, you settle down with some people you love/semiannually tolerate. There’s a warm feeling of nostalgia overtaking you, everybody is excited to watch the game, and there’s a delicious smell wafting from the kitchen. Then your dad carves the turkey and your great-aunt says something inappropriate about stuffing.

Wait, wrong meal. Fast-forward to the day after Thanksgiving, or any day after. There’s a familial vibe here at your table, sure—but instead of turkey, we’re talking burgers topped with peanut butter and jelly. Burgers whose patties are half beef, half bacon... and have bacon on top. And on Saturdays during football season, those aforementioned donut burgers (hint: they’re off-menu). Oh, and for dessert: bacon brownies.

And like any good burger joint, they’ve got fried chicken and pancakes. Wait. Beers. We meant beers. A hundred and one beers.

But they do have fried chicken and pancakes.
