The Blind Side

A Noble Hall of Whiskey and Chess

None 4 Photos The Blind Donkey
In mere hours, a monumental decision will be made.

Some will favor the party with the donkey. Some will favor the one with the elephant.

And you’re not one to get all preachy, but... it’s so obvious that the donkey’s got the better whiskey.

Cast your vote for The Blind Donkey, a noble new hall of whiskey, chess and painted donkeys with a bold pro-drinking policy from the esteemed Surly Goat/Little Bear guys, opening Wednesday.

To get here, there’s a little sojourn to Pasadena that’s got to happen. But we repeat: this is from the Surly Goat/Little Bear guys. So you’ll call some people. You’ll tell them you’re picking them up in 10 minutes. Maybe 45, with traffic.

And you probably won’t blindfold everybody. But if you did, then went on the road for a while without giving any clues, you could pull off those theoretical, nonexistent blindfolds inside here to reveal: some blindfolded donkeys painted on the walls. Some brick and concrete and leather. A handsome home, really, of odd whiskeys and rare beers and... regal chessboard tables.

There will be league matches. There will be camaraderie. There will be triple-fried fries and Butler’s Old Fashioneds, made with peach-vanilla jam.

We hear the butler drank it.
