Things to do for December 08, 2011
The Weekender
Pork Buns and Daniel Boulud
The weekend has no interest in playing third base.
Thursday
An Icelandic Rockumentary
Maybe you’re dating an architect from Reykjavík. Maybe not. But either way, you might want to check out this pulsing, strobe-lit film, Inni. It chronicles Icelandic band Sigur Rós’s 10-year rise to fame. And is a great way to meet an architect from Reykjavík.
Bacon and Cheddar Arepas in Midtown
Meet the boliarepa: a mini arepa made with bacon and cheddar. It’s now being served—along with similar South American delicacies like tequeños and empanadas—at colorful new Venezuelan joint La Latina in Midtown. Fridays and Saturdays, they’re open until 5am, in case you need a middle-of-the-night snack. Call it a pre-breakfast.
Friday
Ice-Skating on the Bay
’Tis the season... for mid-80s temps. But just because you’re still in linen pants doesn’t mean you can’t conjure a winter state of mind with some ice skates. An outdoor rink (flanked by a bar) is open across the bay at the InterContinental in Downtown. Just another blustery winter in Miami.
Monday
Sakaya’s Ribs and Pork Buns Downtown
This is an all-points bulletin regarding your pork bun and kimchi egg roll consumption: it’s about to go up. Way up. The Sakaya Kitchen empire expands with a Downtown outpost today, making midday honey orange ribs a lot more office-friendly. Better bring back a few for the BBQ fiends in accounting.
Drinking Cocktails with Daniel Boulud
Monday’s forecast: hobnobbing with French chef Daniel Boulud. On the agenda: trays of passed apps and a bartender mixing drinks from Daniel’s book Cocktails & Amuse-Bouches: For Her & For Him, which you’ll also take home as a party favor. Consider it an early Christmas gift.
