Things to do for October 27, 2011
The Weekender
Bikini Battles, Motown Brunch and a Cheeseburger Made with Donuts
The weekend is alive... It’s alive!
Thursday
Bikini Models... Ready for Battle
Swimwear designer Lila Nikole wants to ease you into the debauchery ahead. So in a party-prone Coral Gables boutique, DJ Dean Michaels will spin as vodka and sushi is passed. Just keep your eyes open for the body-painted troopers modeling Nikole’s new line: Native Warriors.
Friday
Duck Fat Potatoes in Fort Laud
For your “Next Time I’m in Broward” list: a small-plates joint by the former chef at Chef Allen’s. He’s here dishing out snacks like duck-fat-roasted marble potatoes, and on Fridays, those snacks are $3 and libations are half off. So... maybe next time will be this Friday.
A Very Trippy Cocktail Party
Ah, the garden at Cafeina. A discreet, must-hit patch for cocktail gallivanting. Tomorrow, your beloved orchard will be transformed by local vixen Brinson Renda and partner Rocky Grimes’s video installation of all things mind-bending. The live music will help you bid adieu to the current exhibit, Into the Void.
Saturday
Motown. Brunch. Lester’s. Do It...
Nothing wrong with a little house music and brunch, but we found a Wynwood alternative. Once a month, Lester’s spins Motown albums while your crew refuels on omelets and Bloodys. Diana Ross would want you to have this.
Sunday
Scary Burgers That Just Work
When a Top Chef alum unveils a new burger menu, you go to it. Especially when it includes A Hunk of Burning Love, with bacon, caramelized bananas, spicy cheese and peanut butter. There’s also the Luther, a cheeseburger served on a Krispy Kreme donut. So yeah: it’s health food.
