Things to do for October 13, 2011
The Weekender
This Weekend: Beer, Oysters and a Full Moon Party
The weekend has prepared several Halloween costume spreadsheets.
Thursday
A New House of Beer and Schnitzel
Oktoberfest: officially over. Oktoberfest in Fort Lauderdale: still going strong. This new outpost of the Gables’ famed Fritz & Franz Bierhaus is brimming with Bavarian delicacies like jägerschnitzel (pork scaloppini). Also: German beer, which you can get in giant boot-shaped glasses. Not recommended for the pork.
Friday
A Free Outdoor Concert Downtown
Cancel your Friday afternoon plans—tomorrow’s the kickoff for DWNTWN’s outdoor concert series in Bayfront Park. There, you’ll bask in the sounds of local bands like Surfer Blood and Spam Allstars. But if you still need a drink, there’ll be plenty. The pretzels are all you.
Saturday
A Biking/Scavenger-Hunting Hybrid
Here’s your chance to channel Lance Armstrong... on a scavenger hunt in the middle of Downtown. First you’ll need to assemble a team of two or three. Then you’ll need to bone up on your local trivia. And then you’ll take to the streets. Feel free to wear spandex.
Celebrating Two Sweet Years of Beer
At the DRB, they’ll be celebrating their second anniversary with a beer-soaked 13-hour party, where $20 gets you a bottomless glass of draft beer, including Orange Blossom Pilsner out of Orlando. In other words, exactly like your second birthday party.
Eating Oysters on the Beach
Tides turn, seasons change... but one thing remains constant: your undying love of both oysters and the beach. Where to indulge in each: the Ritz’s full moon party, where you’ll also find Korean short ribs, lychee martinis and Chinese ribbon dancers. Chinese ribbon dancers are your other undying love.
