The weekend is your resolution.
Just a hunch, but we think you’re going to need some champagne this weekend. Solution: the eclectic selection at this Buena Vista wine bar/shop. For the next two days, you can take 40% off all bottles in their retail section, making a $1,000 bottle $600. And a $10 bottle $6.
In the second-floor Alba lounge, dancers from Sugar Shack Burlesque will shake their moneymakers before midnight. Afterwards, there’s live rockabilly. And tickets include an open bar from 10pm to midnight, a buffet with a ceviche bar and a champagne toast. Nothing says 2011 like burlesque.
Then again, sometimes you want to ring in the new year with a leisurely 11-course dinner of Maine Lobster Bisque with truffle foam, Grass-Fed Angus Beef Tenderloin and a bottle of Veuve. And sometimes you want to do it on a sprawling plantation-like patio.
And if you’re looking for something more low-key and off-the-beaten-path, there’s the “stress-free” party at Bardot, where 10 bucks grants you entrance to a reggae/funk/rock performance. And afterwards, Contra spins you into the countdown. (As in the DJ, not the Nintendo game.)
Don’t think too long about what your first meal in 2011 will be. Just get yourself to the Viceroy’s dining room, plunk down $20.11 and dig into a hangover-curing plate of free-range scrambled eggs, old-fashioned smoked bacon, homemade roasted potatoes, organic coffee and juice. Go ahead, throw in a Bloody Mary.
The Ocean Drive café has always been a great spot for lazy brunches across from the beach. But now they’re in a bigger space, with more tables, lounge seating and pool tables. You always like to work off your french toast with a couple rounds of granola pancakes. Or eight-ball.
