The Web Guide to the World's Mysteries

None
Not to state the obvious, but it's Friday.

And your mind is drifting far, far away. You need to get away, but somewhere different, somewhere extraordinary, somewhere perched dangerously over a 100-foot waterfall.

Or possibly something involving whale penises.

Introducing the Atlas Obscura, an online gateway to the world's most spectacular nooks and crannies, ready now to send you to the far reaches of the globe.

There are a lot of travel websites out there, but we like this one because of its knack for bringing you everything you need to know about Icelandic museums full of the aforementioned animal penises (Húsavík's Phallological Museum, if you're going to be formal about it), a crater in Turkmenistan that's been on fire for the past 38 years and an island in the Canaries where all the locals communicate in whistles (not just the construction workers). You can even find out where to buy a giant sloth skeleton downtown (Evolution Nature Store, 120 Spring St), in case you're in the midst of redecorating.

It's just the kind of inspiration you need on a sticky Friday in the city—sort of like a wanderer's Wikipedia. And since you've had your fair share of global run-ins with madness, you'll be glad to know that you can update the site with the craziest things you've ever seen.

But remember, we're talking about travel...
