The years: 2009-2019.
The internet: overloaded with all manner of products—some good, many bad—but few quite so revered as those coming out of Best Made. The company was known for making excellent axes, rugged coats, functional bags and other outdoor essentials. That is until the founder left, Best Made was sold, and then eventually scrapped for parts.
The point we're making: That original founder is back at the helm, and Best Made is once again making top-notch axes and other gear that's meant to last a lifetime.
Best Made Company is starting slowly and vows to get back to its roots as an independent, designer-led product company that operates at the intersection of work, adventure and reinvention. And that's the kind of good news we could all use more of these days.
Said founder, Peter Buchanan-Smith, has been active on Instagram teasing new products. The flagship axe that made the brand famous way back in 2009 is coming back as Old Gold No.1, a limited-supply run of 100 good-looking axes hand-forged in Indiana and available for sale beginning September 25.
It's part of the brand's new Short Supply category, which will feature limited-edition products on a pre-release basis to keep quality high and reduce unwanted inventory. Long Supply products will include items that can be manufactured in a larger quantity, like socks, hats, belts, notebooks and EDC tools, plus Buchanan-Smith's Axe Handbook, which he wrote as an homage to the product that started his business. Much of the above has already launched and is available to purchase now.
The site promises that a steady stream of new products are coming, including Best Made classics, new iterations and lots of apparel.
Because you should always be clothed when you're wielding an axe.
