As you age, it gets harder and harder to drink a whisky that's older than you are.

But The Macallan has just made that a lot easier with the launch of its Time : Space Collection.

The release marks the brand's 200-year anniversary and features two unique new whiskies from the famed Scotch whisky distiller.

One is 84 years old — the oldest whisky ever released by The Macallan — and the other is just five years old. Which seems... confusing. But we can explain. The duo is meant to represent time travel through whisky.

The 84-year-old whisky is a 1940 vintage, and the five-year-old was distilled in 2018 and is the first release from The Macallan's new distillery. So, one is the past and the other is the future. See? Time travel.

The two expressions are packaged together in a dual chamber vessel that looks like a smooth, oak, red-hued spaceship. There are only 200 available, one for each year of the distiller's existence.

The elder whisky is composed of two hand-selected casks: a first-fill American oak butt and second-fill European oak butt, both seasoned with sherry in Jerez de la Frontera and matured in Speyside, Scotland. It's bottled at 43.6% ABV, and all those years in barrels has produced a whisky that's rich and complex, with notes of dark chocolate, ginger, charred pineapple, baked peaches and wood smoke.

The younger whisky is from the first batch of whisky produced at the new distillery. It's 54.9% ABV and shows notes of fresh and baked apples, ripe pears, toffee, honey, vanilla, citrus and sweet oak.

The Time : Space Collection won't be the easiest thing to purchase, as it's not going onto your local liquor store shelves. But interested parties can contact The Macallan's client services department to inquire about scoring one for yourself. 

Oh, right, the price. It's $190,000.
