The term “tool watch” gets thrown around often in watch collecting circles to denote the sorts of
timepieces that serve a specific purpose—like dive watches with high depth ratings and bezels marked to
show time elapsed underwater.
But Leatherman—the folks behind their eponymous multi-tool favored by tactical experts and weekend handymen alike—may have just created the ultimate tool watch by literally building tools into the links of the stainless-steel band on their new Leatherman TREAD Tempo, due to launch this fall.
Wearing one of these is basically like turning your wrist into a toolbox, equipped with both shapes of screwdriver, hex drives, box wrench and the option to add other links in from their TREAD series (which began as a wearable multi-tool in bracelet form). It’s all TSA-friendly as well, so there’s no leaving home without it.
Oh, and of course, it also tells time.
