About that great meal you’re about to have...
At a Best Western...
In an old IHop...
From Joe Miller.
“Oh,” indeed.
Rudy & Hudson California Diner is the place. It’s a valuable all-day diner that’s now open in, yes, a corner of Santa Monica’s Best Western. As mentioned, Joe Miller of Venice’s dearly departed Joe’s is its star, and this is its slideshow.
Charming place. It’s got that classic luncheonette look, only with alluring black tile, punk rock bathrooms and a huge pop-art mural of colorful aerosol lips on the back wall. That’s a perfect place to sit and take in the whole room with your morning coffee. Or morning Michelada. Whatever works.
Not that you’re limited to specific hours or anything. You can get the bacon-infused pancakes or smoked chicken chilaquiles at 8pm. And you can get the sand dabs and pork ribs at 6:30am when no one is awake to see you doing that.
And as discussed earlier amongst ourselves, it is very much a diner. Just better. They’re making all the jams and pickles themselves. The brisket is smoked in-house. The eggs are organic and the produce comes from eminent farmers.
Oh, and you’re there. See?
